Hats and Skills

 As part of our Skills 4 Life in My Hat project, Class 6 pupils took part in several creative and thoughtful activities. 

First, they watched a short video about Edward de Bono’s Six Thinking Hats and discussed the idea and benefits of looking at problems from different perspectives. 

Then they enjoyed another video showing how to fold paper hats using the origami technique. Using six different colours, pupils made their own hats. Some worked on their own, while others preferred to make hats in pairs. We decided to use these colourful hats to form teams in future workshops.


The pupils found the activity fun and creative, and it gave them a chance to combine teamwork with imagination. 

Afterwards, pupils brainstormed on “skills for life” using AnswerGarden. Some of the words they chose were: be creative, solve problems, and work in teams. These ideas will guide us in the next stages of the project and show how pupils understand the importance of life skills in their everyday learning.

  Sustainability The activities focused on science and sustainability made a strong contribution to the development of students’ life skills, encouraging both responsibility and active involvement in real-world issues. During the research stage on sustainability, students explored environmental topics, which helped them build critical thinking and information analysis skills. Financial Literacy in action The activities carried out during the research stage on financial literacy played a significant role in developing essential life skills among students. Through the use of a questionnaire, students were encouraged to reflect on their own financial habits and attitudes toward money. This process not only improved their self-awareness but also helped them understand the importance of responsible financial behavior from an early age.  One of the most impactful activities was learning how to create a realistic budget using the “Six Thinking Hats” method. This approach challenged students to look at financial decisions from multiple perspectives—logical, emotional, creative, and critical. As a result, they developed critical thinking and decision-making skills, learning how to evaluate needs versus wants, anticipate possible risks, and find balanced solutions.
